Physics: Force and Interactions

Types of Forces

Force is a push or a pull.  The concept of force is a qualitative description of the interaction between two bodies or between a body and its environment.

Contact Force

Involves direct contact between two bodies.  Examples include: pushing a block with your hands or friction of the block with the ground.

Long-Range Force

Acts between bodies separated by empty space.  Examples include: gravitational pull on the moon from the earth or magnetic fields pulling on each other.
