Using the Library

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to the LibGuide for Distance Education students. Whether you are in Grande Prairie or in any one of our communities, the NWP Learning Commons is here to assist you to achieve your educational goals. We can assist our students either in person face-to-face, or via technology. Even if you are not on a physical campus, you can reach us with your questions. We are here to help you.

Virtual Assistance

As a Distance Education student you can avail of one-on-one virtual help by booking an appointment online. We are available to help you Monday to Friday, 8:30 am. to 4:30 pm. We can help you with how to do research using digital resources, APA citation style, and how to access helpful resources on the library webpage. Our goal is to help you succeed in your studies!

Request Books from NEOS

Requesting Books 

Use the NEOS catalogue to search for books. Click on the  icon found in the catalogue record for the book:

Log in using your User ID (Library card barcode) and PIN (last 4 digits of barcode) and choose Grande Prairie Regional College - Grande Prairie (for Grande Prairie Campus) as your pick up location in the "Pickup at" menu. The item will be mailed from there via Priority Courier to your address.

Delivery of Materials

 Once you have found the information you are looking for, it will be sent directly to you:

  • Requested materials are collected, signed out and mailed to distance education students.
  • Parcels are shipped pre-paid via Priority Post Courier.
  • Pre-paid return bill of lading & shipping label are included to return materials to NWP Learning Commons.
  • If some items must be returned earlier than the rest, a second return manifest will be sent for the remaining items.

Loan Periods and Limits for Distance Students

NWP books: 5 weeks
NEOS books: 3 weeks
     ILL books: 3 weeks *subject to lending library's loan policy

Getting Articles/Books from other libraries (ILL) 

These will be filled digitally and sent to you via e-mail. You can also submit chapter requests for specific chapters of eBooks not part of NWP's collection.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free service for NWP students, faculty and staff to request articles and books from other libraries that are not part of NEOS. You have your own Interlibrary Loan account where you can place and keep track of your article/book requests. When your article/book arrives at the NWP Learning Commons, you will receive an email message at your NWP email account. You can then pick up your article/book at the Circulation Desk.

Journal Articles: Requests can take up to 1.5 - 2 weeks be filled. You will receive an e-mail in your student e-mail account that contains a link to the requested article. Download the article as soon as you receive this e-mail. Links are "live' for 14 days, or up to 3 downloads, whichever is less.

Print Books: Make sure the book is not available in another library in the NEOS catalogue. If it is, place a hold instead. Book requests through ILL usually take 1.5 - 2 weeks to arrive.


How to Log In to Your Account to Request an Article/Book

 Go to your Interlibrary Loan account.

User Login = barcode on your NWP ID card (or under "My Info" on the NWP App) -  1930001234567

Password = last four digits of barcode on your library card (e.g., 4567)

NOTE: All Interlibrary Loan messages will come from the following email address: agpc@relaisill.com. Some email programs automatically filter this address, so check your junk mail folder periodically. You can also check the status of your requests by logging into your Interlibrary Loan account.
