Student Research Conference 2023

The Student Research Conference is an annual celebration of the research Northwestern Polytechnic students do every day, both in and out of the classroom.

Each year we receive submissions from students who have completed or are working on research in their areas of study. Presenters must provide a poster summarizing their project in addition to a 10-minute oral presentation.

Conference Date: Saturday, May 6, 2023

Times: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Where: Northwestern Polytechnic, Grande Prairie Campus 

Submission Deadline: Friday, March 17, 2023

Northwestern Perspectives

Our institution has changed significantly in the past year, and we encourage you to pause and consider the view from here. Northwestern Polytechnic is more than just a name -- it is part of our identity. "Northwestern" signals a unique social, economic, and environmental sphere. Alberta's northwest is known for its entrepreneurial spirit, its resource economy and the opportunities and challenges that accompany it, remote communities, long winters, and ruggedly beautiful landscapes. As Northwesterners, our worldview is inevitably shaped by our environment.

For this year's conference, we challenge you to submit a project that demonstrates, celebrates, or critically examines a northwestern perspective.

How to Participate

1. Apply
   1. Review last year's presentations and check that you and your project are eligible.
   2. Complete the application form, and indicate whether you prefer to present your project as part of the poster session, or as a ten-minute oral presentation.
   3. Write a brief abstract according to instructions on the application form.
      1. (AISES offers an excellent guide to writing abstracts, but you may also make an appointment with Jacob Fehr for assistance)
   4. Submit the completed application form, your abstract, and your project to jafehr@nwpolytech.ca
2. Prepare
   1. Create a poster that summarizes your project using a template provided by the Learning Commons or prepare a 10-minute oral presentation using a visual aid.
   2. Attend a practice presentation/technology check before the conference.
3. Present
   1. Attend the Student Research Conference on Saturday, May 6, 2023 to present your project.
   2. Congratulations -- you've presented at an academic conference!
